A fair and a garden

We booked another fair at the weekend. It’s just over a month away on Saturday 20 October in Kilndown Village Hall, 11am – 4.30pm. It will be the first fair we go to; I’m nervous and excited, but looking forward to taking our cards on the road. It sounds like there will be lots of nice stalls there as well as light lunches and home produce, so if nothing else it will be a nice afternoon out with some cake. Pop along and say hello if you’re nearby.

And we went to Great Dixter with my mum and dad. Ah, Dixter; the garden of my dreams. It really is a magical place and a stroll among its overflowing borders is a unique and wonderful experience:

This is the famous long border, its contents spilling across the footpath. I was amazed by how much colour there still was and how many bees were still enjoying the flowers.

The planting at Dixter is like nowhere else I’ve ever seen. They really do fill every space.

And then there are the hedges, which give a lovely contrast to the less formal planting in the beds and allow little glimpses through to different areas of the garden.

I can’t think of many nicer places to spend some time on an autumn weekend.
